Sure, everyone wants to sell their products online and make some decent money; but those who ultimately fail at it are usually the ones who don’t take the time to sell themselves right along with those products.
It’s a hard idea to grasp, isn’t it? Actually it’s not when you think about it this way:
People tend to buy from those they have some level of trust with.
The Internet is full of all kinds of Internet marketers from all walks of life. They come from so many different corners of the world. Some are true to their word and will sell the best products possible; while others are only in it for the money.
Customers are well informed of Internet scams and how to look out for them. The horror stories that cycle the net are plentiful from people who have been scammed and lost a lot of money on deals or products. So, when it comes time to buy something, they usually look to those whom they know or they feel is an expert in a particular area.
The reason is simple. They don’t want to get scammed like hundreds of others have, when dealing online. Basically, the Internet is a faceless kind of media. It’s not the same as walking into your local department store and being given a sales pitch by a person face to face.
The Internet provides communication in so many ways; through emails, Instant Messaging programs and even on messages through forums. It doesn’t really provide you with a person to look at, face to face, while you communicate with them. A picture posted on your business site could help in that sense, but it’s still not the same as dealing with a business owner in person.
The more they know a business owner, the more trust they could have in them. Most consumers are leery of buying anything from someone they don’t really know, because they fear getting swindled out of their money.
The successful Internet marketers know this and are understanding of it. They have learned to work around the problem by reaching out to their target market and… Selling Themselves
Selling yourself is done through building relationships with those you intend to sell to. It’s important to create a bond with them to encourage a level of trust with you, so you can make the sale to them in the end.
To find your target market, you need to use outlets like the social media websites and message board forums that relate to your business site’s topic. You should also provide an opt- in email address sign up list, so one can regularly receive information on your business through newsletters, etc. via their inbox.
It’s also important to note that the relationship you build with your target market will need to be kept up; even after the sale. Your customers need to continue to have trust with you in order to keep coming back when they want to buy. This is easily done through your customer service skills and by providing them with excellent products.
Once you’ve introduced yourself to your targeted audience, you can begin getting to know them while they get to know you. The relationship you build through these outlets can be immeasurable when it comes to your business.
It makes total sense to want to buy from someone you know and trust in comparison to someone you don’t know. Great post Tamara.

Well, I totally agree to show oneself and communicate is important. But concerning that newsletter vie e-mail, I do not really appreciate recieving offers constantly from online shops,.. and do not go to their shops..
I would not use “selling yourself” although that’s what we do. People don’t care about the man, they care about what can benefit them. So, I would use “giving” instead of “selling”.

Yes it’s good use forums and a service like aweber can help a lot because people tend to forget your product and sometimes one email reminder can make you a sale.
It is really easy to start an online store. But the difference between the best and the worst is the intelligent use of sem-knowledge. At least for two years…
Hello Tamara,
Funny, I was just at Twitter moms & saw you so, I decided I would stop in.
Since you run a picture of yourself it is easy for me to recognize you. Not like I have not seen you on the forums for years.
So yes, it does help to ’sell yourself’ as someone that people feel they know & will be around awhile & not a fly by night.
