The May 15th Gas Out Won’t Save the World

Ever since I have been on the internet which has been about 8 years now I keep hearing about this great idea to have this gas out on a certain day the last few years it has been May 15th, every year I share the Snoops website stating it simply will not work its a good theory.
Here is the email I got this last night

Don’ t pump gas on may 15th
. ..in April 1997, there was a “gas out” conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices.
Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon
overnight.
On May 15th 2008, all inter net users are to not go to a gas station
in
protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in
most places.

There are 73, 000, 000+ American members currently on the internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill
up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$ 2, 292, 000, 000.00 ( that’ s almost 3 BILLI ON) out of the oil
company’s pockets for just one day, so pleas e do not go to the gas
station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil
industry for at least one day.

If you agree ( which I cant see why you wouldn’t) resend this to all
your contact list.

With it saying, ‘ ‘ Don’ t pump gas on May 15th”

Think about it, if you have to go someplace on the 15th that is going to use a lot of gas your just going to fill up on the 14th or 13th there for still buying the gas. There for the supply and demand issue is still there. Any money the oil companies may loose will be made up for the days around the ‘boycott’ as they put it.

So Every year I sit and wonder why some people think so hard that this will work and really never figure it out. It could be since a lot of people I know fill up once a week and then that is fine for the week so unless this May 15th falls on that particular day its not going to really mess with my schedule. and if it did like I mentioned earlier just go in the day earlier or the day after. No Big deal.

I often wonder if no one buys then wouldn’t the price actually go up not down Since there would be that mad rush the day before and after? Since the demand is so much higher then? But from everything I have read on it so few people have Not bought gas in the years past

Now if we really wanted to make any sort of impact on the gas companies wouldn’t it be a better idea to have a ‘drive out week’ where no one drove their cars for a week there fore not using any gas there for the need a day before after or when ever is not there? Not buying gas on May 15th who cares people are still going to drive and use this gas if they bought it that day or not. So its the same amount being used. OK maybe a week is a bit long with many of us and/or spouses having to drive a ways to work however I do think something like that if enough people did it would make an impact on the gas companies.

Anyways Stop sending the emails Not enough people would participate to even see if this would even work its been 9 years now and there has not been near enough people participating. So Stop sending me these emails they wont change the world. Send me emails that may how to help children and help keep them save. Or better yet If you want to save the world call the police next time you see a man hitting a child or a woman, Or call for them if you see a group of boys picking on a lonely boy. You May not know the whole story, however You may be saving that One persons life.
