I am not a very big holiday person, no matter the holiday big or small. To me the holidays have become to commercial for me. All of the what do you want, what are you getting her or him, I want this. It drives me totally insane.
I do sit and focus on the real meaning of the holiday at hand, Christmas about the birth of Christ, Easter his death, Valentines day to celebrate the one you love same with your anniversary, Birthdays to celebrate the person. I understand these things and do what I can to teach my children these things so they realize that these things are not all about the gifts. However, these things don’t always sink in as planned.
I personally think that the above holidays should be celebrated everyday at least the meaning something we share all year. I also believe that surprises should be given for no reason rather then on a designated day, for me I feel more like I am being thought of rather then its an obligation.
So this year for Christmas I am working on being true to me and what I really feel, celebrating the true meaning so its going to be a smaller Christmas gift wise and more family time and self time for me. I believe for me this will be the way to make the best out of the holiday this year.
