Kids and the real meaning of Christmas

Well as of right now its 15 days until Christmas,  Which means only 15 days left of shopping.  Well We are done for the most part a few things here and there for the boys and an outfit or two for Becky.  But I often wonder are we teaching them enough about the real meaning of Christmas,  I mean we do talk about the birth of Jesus and he is the real meaning for the season but I wonder how much is actually being learned.  I already know that my children are well spoiled and sadly becoming materialistic. I know where it comes from  and we are working on that.  I did some searching this morning for some activities to help them learn the real meaning I found a few sites that have some great ideas to teach them with out preaching.

I think one of the main things I read was to help teach them to give of themselves and share what they have.  I am going to turn Dec 17th the Bloggers Unite Random acts of Kindness activity in to a family one.  I am going to find things we can do for others together.

What ideas do you have that can help share and teach the real meaning of Christmas?  I hope you share them I love learning new ways to help teach the children

Have a Great Monday

I just registered.
Sadly my 14yr son doesn’t think it so cool I spent Christmas money on helping less fortunate people through overseas aid funds - he is so not getting much this year in a way to teach a lesson about the true meaning of Christmas and giving .I feel guilty about it but I hope one day he will thank us.
I will be giving him the ‘cards’ from the organisations we helped
The twins 17 months old won’t know any different and the family will more than compensate.

That makes total sense. Tonight my 13 year old is being the same way he dont care about nothing. However he does have his moments when he does care and wants to help I just hope Dec 17th is one of those days.
