I want to Work at Home But No Family Support

When you decide to take on a home business venture it is difficult enough. Having support from your family may be the difference between your business success and failure. Keep in mind that your family’s point of view, this working at home thing has both its good and bad points.

For your kids it may be fun. Your “too young for school” age children love having you at home because they like doing things with you, whether it’s baking cookies or playing in the sandbox. School age children find it pretty handy having mom at home to drive them to their soccer games or have their friends over to play. Often times they even like having you come to school to volunteer in their classroom.

Now with teenagers it may be a harder sell. They will like that you can drive them to the mall or bring them to work. They however may not be really fond of the fact that you always seem to be around.

Husbands are usually the hardest person to get the support from. He may not be really convinced that you can really make money with your upcoming venture.

Husbands usually see both sides. He loves that his wife is home taking care of the house and the kids and making a nice supper each evening. He’s even proud of what and says he supports you in what you are doing and may even be amazed at how you manage to pull it all off and make it seem easy.

He’s not as keen on the fact that your income has dropped if you used to have a “real” job and are not making the same amount of money as a WAHM. He probably is not too crazy about the idea of having to pitch in more in the evenings so that you can get some work done. You’re busier when he wants some attention and he has trouble understanding why, when you’re home all day, you need to work in the evening.

How to Do it

So just how do you overcome your family’s possible objections to your working at home and get them on your side? A good first step is to hold a family meeting and discuss the issue. It’s important to really listen and let everyone have a say and share their feelings about this. It’s easier to explain your ideas and excitement if you know what your family thinks and how they perceive your home business venture. Talk about your feelings regarding having your own home business and how important it is to you that they support you. The guilt card, when used properly, can be very effective.

If your husband is not really supportive, try to for a small promise of support for at least a period of several months, so you will have some time to get up and running. If he is very much opposed to your venture at least try to arrive at a compromise with him. Perhaps suggest that if you’re not showing an income after a specified period of time, you’ll give it up, put it on hold for awhile, or go back to work.

It is important to come to some mutual agreement that you can both live with. This is how it becomes a win/win situation. You’ll work even harder to prove you can do it and he’ll be happy knowing that there will be a resolution.

By listening to each and every family member and taking their feelings into consideration, it is easier to ask that they do the same for yours. It is important to involve everyone in the decision about your venture. It makes your new venture easier on everyone.

Sometimes it’s hard to get on the same page with all of them. It’s a good idea to at least try and prepare them for your big venture. Don’t despair if they don’t support you.Even if so, you can still manege to have a nice business. have a good plan and work and it’s gonna be nice. Not all families support us, but this doesn’t stop us from this.
