Getting and Staying In Shape The WAHM Way

Thank you for coming back to visit, Have you signed up for my newsletter to receive business and blogging tips? the sign up box is on the right.

For some reason, it often seems easier to get and stay in shape when you have an outside job. Perhaps it’s the fact that even holding down a job requires some management of time, so fitting in even more things WAHM Riding Bikebecomes easier. Maybe there is more disposable income when you work outside the home, so joining a gym is more affordable. With that said, it is possible to get and stay in shape if you’re a work at home mother. Your solutions just may need to be a little less structured and a little more creative.

All work and no play is no way to live. Not only is it depressing, it’s downright unhealthy. So make a daily goal of getting active. Huh, you may think. That’s a lot easier said than done. Not so. Forget the no pain, no gain theory and get out there and have some fun.

The best all around form of exercise is walking and it can be done at almost any time of the year. This is an activity you can do without having to sign up for a special class or buy all kinds of expensive equipment. In fact, if you have children at home, going out for a walk is a great way to spend time together. Obviously fast paced walking is best, but getting out and moving around even at a “kid’s pace” is way better than doing nothing.

Bike riding is also a wonderful way to trick yourself into exercising. Again it’s very do-able with children. So strap on that helmet and get motoring.

Of course, the weather doesn’t always allow us to get outside. For those times, why not put on an exercise video? You may huff and puff and look ridiculous but who’s to see? Your kids will be right there with you, having a fun time with mom. They’re playing and getting some exercise, while you get your work-out in.

Making a commitment to some form of daily activity is the most important step, but following through is even more important. It doesn’t really matter what you do, just do something every day. Swing on the swings at the park, do some weed pulling in the garden, cut the grass, climb your stairs a few extra times each day, get into yoga, organize a group of other stay at home moms and do aerobics together.

If you can manage a home business, run a household, and take care of your family, you can find a way to get and stay in shape. So get creative and get moving. With all the extra energy that you’ll have from being in shape, the WAHM way of life is only going to get better and better.
