I am sure we have all heard that placing articles in article directories is a good idea to help get links in to your site. A question I have been seeing come up often lately is “Why should I post my article in to a 
directory?” Well I have found three reasons that I have found it helpful.
1. Posting articles in directories helps you become an expert in your niche. I am not saying that you are not already and it is necessary to become an expert. What I am talking about is you are putting your knowledge out there so others can see it and see what you do know so it helps other people view you as an expert. The more they see your articles the more they will know that you really know what you are sharing with them.
2. Using article directories is also a good way to some back links to your site. Not only from the directory but from those who place your article on their website or blog. This helps with incoming links but if the article is well written and your resource box is intriguing this is a great way to increase traffic to your site.
3. Relationship building is another thing that using directories can do. True you are not getting friendly with the readers of your article you are however building trust which goes along with becoming an expert in others eyes. They see more articles from you they begin to feel they know you on some level and that begins to build trust.
There are a lot more reasons to use the directories these are just a few of the main reasons I feel they are a good resource for site and blog owners to use to get their name out there.
A few sites that I really like are
Lady Pens – A directory for women writers, on womens topics
WAHP Articles – This directory is for all work at home parents/people. Topics covering just about everything (This is a favorite since it is mine)
Articles By Moms – Article directory with articles written by moms.
If you do decide to submit to article directories read the sites guidelines a lot are very similar but make sure that your not breaking any of the sites rules so your article does not get rejected.

I tried a few times to write an article in an article directory and with a back link for promoting my blog or my articles written in another site but I don’t see much profit in it.
Social bookmark sites are more useful for promoting your business.
